I’ve served on the band’s board of directors for many years. I was also the Vice President of Fundraising for the Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA) and am currently Vice President of the John Sims Endowment Fund. I joined the band because I have always maintained that my biggest accomplishments and successes in life have only ever been achieved when my routine has allowed for consistent and disciplined time spent playing my horn. The most important thing I get out of being a member of the band is a higher quality of life that is not achievable without a consistent creative outlet. A fun memory I have with the band: in 2003, in celebration of the band’s 25th anniversary, the band marched behind a float we built for the ‘03 pride parade. It was a giant birthday cake that we completed only the night before. I had unknowingly dropped my cell phone inside of it and we could hear the cake ringing all the way up Market Street the next day.
